ABOUT Osama

Osama Elwardani is a Cairo-born filmmaker and editor based in Washington DC. He graduated from Ain Shams University with a Bachelor of Arts in 2010 and began his career with Semat, an independent film production house. He gained an appreciation for independent and experimental films through his work as a foreign film translator.

Driven by the Arab Spring in 2011, Osama traveled to Libya to document and film the revolution. Later that same year, he shot his first short documentary Tahrir-BenGhazi, which won best documentary at the Hannover Up and Coming International Film Festival. In addition to his professional career, Osama worked in Cairo’s independent cinema scene with friends. During this time, he worked as an assistant director on two long feature movies, Saif tagreeby-experimental summer and the Giraffe. He produced his documentary, And Still, and a short feature Oreo. Later in cooperation with Ateliere Varan, Parisian-based filmmakers, he produced two short documentaries, On The Wall and For Nina.

In 2012 Osama expanded his storytelling through journalism by joining the Welad el Balad independent team. At Welad el Balad he established nine multimedia branches across Egypt and trained journalists in professional reportage.

As a Senior Editor with Cell Post Production House, expanded his technical expertise through work on commercials, television series, and film. Four years in the post production media field gave Osama great knowledge of mass media productions. Worked with the most talented in the field and the biggest media houses, in one of the pioneer cinema countries. During this time, he worked closely with the lead editors to manage assets and coordinate with external sound and graphics studios. By working on an array of material Osama honed his attention to detail and storytelling rhythm.

Later Osama continued to work in journalism producing media content for the ElSaha and AlHurra news platforms.
